Dr Joiner qualified as a doctor in London from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in 2007. He went on to train as a psychiatrist in the North West of England. Dr Joiner also has a BSc in Neuroscience and Neuropsychology. He has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in the NHS in three different services: an Adult ADHD service, a community mental health team assessing and treating adults with all common mental health problems, and an early intervention in psychosis service.

Dr Joiner has also worked as an associate medical director in the NHS. Dr Joiner has implemented tele-psychiatry in the NHS for community teams both before and during the pandemic. With a Master’s in Medical Education, Dr Joiner has several publications in the field of Medical Education. He has had responsibilities for training and development of medical students and psychiatry trainees.

While Dr Joiner has particular skill in the use of medication to treat psychiatric disorders, he discusses and incorporates all aspects of treatment with people who consult him to ensure the best chance of recovery. In the past he had a ‘Pets as Therapy’ dog who joined him in some of his NHS outpatient clinics!

Dr Joiner is adept at assessing and treating mental health problems which are experienced in adults of working age, but especially:

  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Depressive Disorders
  • Anxiety Disorders (including OCD and PTSD)
  • Psychosis and Schizophrenia (particularly First Episode Psychosis
