Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist

Dr Major’s specialty is in General Adult Psychiatry and Psychotherapy with a particular interest in Personality Disorders and associated conditions including PTSD and traumatic experiences in early life. He has experience in treating eating disorders and substance misuse. He is an experienced Expert Witness preparing medico-legal reports. Dr Major is GMC-registered and is an Approved Clinician under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act.

Dr Major offers rapid assessment and diagnosis for adult ADHD and ADD and, where appropriate, a full range of effective treatment including prescription. He has vast experience gained from over 30 years of medicine, including a lengthy stint as a Consultant Psychiatrist with the NHS, treating adults, couples, adolescents and families with conditions such as depression, anxiety and panic disorders, PTSD, anger management issues, bereavement, chronic fatigue/ME, forensic issues, self-harming, stress management, relationship problems, sexual dysfunction, somatoform disorders, OCD, phobias, schizophrenia, and bipolar affective disorder.

An experienced Senior Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist, Dr Major is one of the relatively few medically qualified Psychiatrists who is also a trained and accredited Psychotherapist. He is therefore one of the few Consultants who is able to evaluate the benefit for each patient of a drug versus a psychotherapy treatment plan. Wearing his medico-legal hat, Dr Major has prepared numerous medico-legal reports for solicitors in relation to civil and criminal compensation cases, medical negligence claims, employment disputes and fitness-to-practice cases. He also has experience of writing reports in relation to immigration issues.

Dr Major has a broad and in-depth experience of the full range of mental health conditions from the minor to the most severe, and adopts a combination of psychological, biological, and social approaches. He is extremely approachable and is passionate about working with individuals struggling with mental health and psychological problems.
