Mental Health Nurse & Independent Prescriber.
I qualified as a mental health nurse in 1997, later gaining a Masters in eating disorders and post graduate certificates in non-medical prescribing and teaching. I’m currently undertaking a doctorate in education to support my work with pre-registration mental health nurses.
My commitment is to ensuring safe, effective and person centred medicines management in the context of wider mental health nursing care. Prior to moving to nurse education, I spent 20 years working in the field of mental health across a range of age groups and settings including adult acute psychiatry, eating disorders, chronic affective disorders, generic child and adolescent mental health, an ADHD service and liaison psychiatry.
Most recently I worked as a nurse prescriber within child and adolescent mental health services. I very much enjoy working in partnership with people with ADHD to enhance quality of life through both use of medication and non-pharmacological strategies, and value the opportunity to continue to work clinically as part of the Psychiatry UK team.
