FAQs Private Adult ADHD Service

Booking a private (self-pay) adult ADHD assessment is straightforward – you don’t need a GP referral. Simply click on the Book Online link and complete the Booking Form.  

• Payment: The fee is £950, payable at the time of booking. Please have your debit or credit card ready. You’ll receive a payment confirmation email when your payment has been accepted.  
• Residential Status:  Our service is available to residents of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is not available to current UK armed forces personnel. 
• Treatment:  Select  ‘Adult ADHD Assessment’.  

Once registered, you’ll receive a:

• Welcome email with a link to set up your Psychiatry UK MedQare account.
• Medical History Questionnaire to complete. 

Please note: We will request your consent to share your personal and medical data with your GP, including relevant medical history and current medications.  

This is a condition of service that is in your best interest to ensure safe medical practice and effective continuity of care.   

UK law and policy recognise that appropriate information sharing is often integral to safe care. Notably, the Health and Social Care (Safety and Quality) Act 2015 introduced a statutory duty to share information for care. It mandates that relevant health professionals “must ensure” a patient’s information is shared with others providing care to that patient, where it will facilitate care and is in the patient’s best interest. Psychiatry UK reserves the right to discontinue treatment if essential medical information cannot be shared.  

You will usually be able to schedule an appointment within two weeks of completing your pre-assessment patient checklist. 

No. You only need: 

• A computer or tablet with a webcam and microphone. 
• Access to the internet. 

We recommend testing your device before your appointment. You can use the Test Your Device  tab on our website. You may be prompted to click ‘allow’ to grant permission to access the camera and microphone. This is required for your meeting to go ahead. 

Installing the Microsoft Teams app is suggested for the best experience, though you can also join via the latest Microsoft Edge browser without creating an account. 

Please raise a note via your portal for our medical secretaries if you need any help or support with your forms. 

An Informant Report should be completed by someone who has known you since childhood (before the age of 12), and who has known you for the longest period of time, for example, a close friend, family member or support worker. 

Why this matters: This report is essential for an accurate assessment outcome. Without significant childhood information, it may be more difficult to provide you with an outcome or diagnosis from your assessment appointment. If you do not have a suitable informant, please let us know – we can provide an alternative form. 

Statutory 14-day ‘Cooling Off Period’

You are entitled to a 14-day statutory cooling-off period for online bookings. You may cancel within 14 days for a full refund, providing the service has not started. 

If your appointment is within the 14-day period, you may waive this right. Full refunds are also available for cancellations made 7 working days after booking, with processing completed within 30 days.

If you wish to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please contact our medical secretaries by raising a note on your patient portal. 

• Cancel with 7+ days’ notice for a full refund. 
• Cancel 2-7 days before your appointment: 50% fee applies. 
• Cancel within 48 hours – or if you do not attend: the full fee applies. 

Exceptions may be made at the discretion of Psychiatry UK.

To reschedule an appointment: Please raise a note for our medical secretaries via your patient portal. 

If you fail to attend a booked appointment without giving us notice of cancellation of the booking, we are within our rights to charge you the full cost of the consultation. Any decision to vary this, to take account of particular circumstances beyond your control, is at the discretion of Psychiatry UK. Please read our  Bookings, Cancellation and Non-Attendance (DNA) Policy for more information. 

Yes. Our initial appointment (£950) is the same for everyone, including patients who already have a diagnosis or are coming through the Right to Choose (RTC) pathway.

Even if you provide your previous assessment report, our psychiatrist will need to review it to determine whether it contains enough detail to move forward with treatment or medication. In many cases, the report may not provide all the information required, or it may be several years old.

If your diagnosis was made in childhood, it is usually necessary to complete a full adult reassessment, as ADHD can present differently in adulthood. Your previous reports are still useful for context, but the assessment ensures we have a full, up-to-date understanding of your needs.

If you’re registered with us as a private (self-pay) patient but now wish to move to NHS-funded care through the Right to Choose scheme, here’s what you need to do: 

Check your eligibility
Make sure you are entitled to ADHD treatment via the NHS Right to Choose service (please see the referral guidance on our Right to Choose page). 

Speak to your GP
Book an appointment with your GP and ask them to refer you to Psychiatry UK for ADHD assessment/treatment under Right to Choose if they feel this is appropriate.

• If you already have an ADHD diagnosis from our private service, your GP can refer you for medication treatment only. 
• You can share our referral guidance with your GP to help with the process. 

Wait for your referral to be accepted
This can take up to 8 weeks. Once it has been approved, we’ll contact you to confirm that your care has been transferred to the NHS pathway.
Please note: while you are waiting, you will need to continue paying for your private care. 

Continue your treatment seamlessly 
When your NHS-funded care begins, you will pick up from the stage you are already at in our pathway—you will not need to restart your treatment. 

If you’re currently registered with us under NHS Right to Choose and would like to transfer to our private ADHD service, here’s what you need to do:

Steps to Transfer: 

• Contact our customer support team to let them know you want to switch from the NHS Right to Choose service to our private service. You can do this through our Live Chat or by calling our telephone support line at 0330 124 1980 (Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm). 
• Let them know you wish to be discharged from the Right to Choose service and move to the private pathway. 

Next Steps: 

• A member of our Private Adult Services team will reach out within 2 working days to confirm that you understand the self-pay process and agree to our conditions of service. 
• We will then contact your GP to inform them that you’re receiving treatment through our private ADHD service. It’s important that we share your personal and medical information with your GP to ensure safe care and continuity of treatment. 

At present it isn’t possible to move directly from our NHS-funded treatment waiting list to expedited treatment through our Private Adult ADHD service. 

We know this may be disappointing, but we’re working hard to make this option available soon. Our priority is to ensure that any service we provide meets our patients’ expectations and that anyone considering a transfer to our private pathway has a clear understanding of what this may involve.

Our fee for a private adult ADHD assessment is £950 – payable at the time of booking. There are no hidden or additional costs.

Included: One-hour assessment, formal diagnosis (if indicated), full written report, and personalised treatment plan. You will receive an electronic copy of your assessment report via your patient portal. A copy of your report will also be sent to your GP. 

Payment plans: We do not currently offer payment plans for initial assessments. 

No. We do not currently offer any type of payment plan. 

Titration is the process of safely introducing ADHD medication. During this time, your prescriber will adjust your dose to help control symptoms while keeping side effects as low as possible. 

No. To access medication through Psychiatry UK, you must first complete an ADHD assessment with us. 
If your assessment shows that medication is suitable, we can offer a 12-week private titration plan. We cannot start treatment based on assessments from other providers. 

Our standard titration package runs for 12 weeks. If needed, you can extend it in 4-week increments at an extra cost (£200 per 4 weeks). 

• You’ll take your medication as prescribed. 
• You’ll regularly submit readings of your blood pressure, pulse, and weight using a home BP monitor. 
• Your prescriber will review these readings and adjust your dose to find the most effective treatment with the fewest side effects. 

• 12-week medication treatment plan – £750 
  • What is included: Titration initiation and monitoring, cost of prescription writing, End of Titration Review, Shared Care request to your GP. 
  • What is not included: The cost of the medication itself is additional. This will be payable to the pharmacy that you choose to fulfil your prescription order. 
• Additional 4-week titration packages available – £200 per 4 weeks 
  • Follow-up titration packages are optional, although they may be recommended by your prescriber. These are payable at the time of booking. 
• Additional review appointment with your consultant (30 mins) – £180 
  • Follow-up appointments with your consultant are optional. Payable at the time of booking your appointment. 
• If Shared Care is declined: £25 per prescription 

Yes. You’ll need a blood pressure monitor to check your blood pressure and pulse. These are usually available at local pharmacies for around £15–£20.

At the end of 12 weeks, your prescriber will arrange an End of Titration Review to discuss how you’re responding to your medication. They will then write to your GP to request Shared Care. 

If your GP does not agree to Shared Care, Psychiatry UK will continue to provide your prescriptions.

Our fee is £25 for writing the prescription. The cost of the medication itself is additional. This can vary considerably between different pharmacies, so we recommend researching to compare costs

The medical exemption certificate is specifically for individuals with certain medical conditions that entitle them to free NHS prescriptions. It does not apply to private prescriptions.
