Beginning ADHD treatment is an important step, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way. This page explains what will happen during the first part of your journey, what you’ll need to do, and how we’ll support you.
Titration is the process of safely starting your new medication. You’ll be paired with one of our specialist ADHD prescribers, who will carefully adjust your medication dose over a period of up to 12 weeks. The goal is to find the right balance—helping your symptoms while keeping side effects to a minimum.
NICE guidelines recommend that treatment is started by a specialist ADHD clinician. Not all GPs have the knowledge to prescribe and titrate ADHD medications, and some prefer not to carry out this process.
- To keep you safe, we need to monitor your blood pressure and pulse during titration. You’ll need a blood pressure (BP) monitor at home so you can record your readings. We’ll guide you on how to take these accurately, and we have a video and written guide to help.
- If you’re an NHS patient (referred via Right to Choose or your local NHS service): our pharmacy will send you a monitor free of charge.
- If you’ve previously received one from us but no longer have it, you’ll need to buy a replacement from a pharmacy or online.
What you need to do:
- Check your home address and GP details in your patient portal under ‘My Profile’—this is where your report, medication, and (if applicable) your BP monitor will be sent.
- If you’d like your monitor delivered to a different address, let us know as soon as possible using our Live Chat (available via the portal, our website, or the Companion app).
- Look out for SMS and email notifications about portal notes and delivery updates from DPD or Royal Mail.
We’ll send you a note in your patient portal 28 days before you’re due to start titration. You’ll also receive an SMS or email notification. This message will include your pre-titration checklist—a set of tasks to complete before we can assign your prescriber.
This checklist helps us make sure you’re ready to start safely. Please wait until we ask you to begin before working through these steps.
Verify your ID
Complete your ID check in the patient portal. For step-by-step guidance, see our Verifying Your Identity page.
Complete your forms
You’ll find these under the ‘Pending Forms’ tab in your portal (we’ll also send you links via SMS and email).
- Adult Pre-titration Checklist Form – updates us on your current health and medications.
- Prescription Address & Payment Exemption Confirmation Form – confirms where your medication should be sent.
- BP, Pulse, Weight & Height Form – where you’ll record your baseline health readings.
Tip: Once you finish a form, you’ll see a message that it’s ‘100% complete’. Please remember to click Submit to send it to us.
Send in your baseline readings
Before starting medication, we need your initial BP, pulse, weight, and height measurements. These “baseline readings” give your prescriber a safe reference point.
- You’ll need to provide two sets of readings while on the waiting list.
- Use our written guide or video to help you take accurate readings.
- Record everything in the BP, Pulse, Weight & Height Form in your portal.
Important: Your checklist must be completed within 28 days of receiving the poru may be discharged back to your GP. tal note. If it’s not done in time, we won’t be able to assign you a prescriber and you may be discharged back to your GP.
Once your checklist is complete and any additional medical results are received:
- You’ll be assigned a prescriber (usually within 28 days, often sooner if your forms are submitted quickly).
- Your prescriber will contact you via the portal—please check your notifications regularly.
- They’ll review your health information and may request extra details (for example, about your heart or mental health).
If all is safe, your prescriber will confirm your treatment plan and issue your first prescription.
Please let us know immediately if you’re currently receiving ADHD treatment elsewhere.
- We have a Titration Engagement and Discharge Policy. This means you’ll need to respond to requests within the stated timeframes to stay in treatment.
- You must be in the UK during titration and have regular access to your BP monitor, a phone or computer, and the internet.
- If you have holidays or medical procedures planned, let us know early—your prescriber can help decide if it’s the right time to begin. Treatment can only be paused once during titration, and only for up to 28 days.
- Urgent advice: Please follow the guidance on our website.
- General queries: Use our Live Chat service (Mon–Fri, 8 am–6pm).
- Stay updated: Download the free MedQare Companion App on the Apple App Store or Google Play to receive instant portal notifications.
