I am a UK-trained Consultant Psychiatrist, registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), with 26 years of experience in psychiatry, academic medicine, clinical leadership and service development, including 22 years within the UK National Health Service (NHS).
I have held senior clinical and academic positions at some of the UK’s leading healthcare and academic institutions. I previously served as Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist and Clinical Lead for the Liaison Psychiatry Service at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, alongside my role at the National Spinal Injuries Centre, Stoke Mandeville Hospital. I was also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford.
Earlier in my career, I worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist with Cambridge and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, and as a Visiting Researcher and Undergraduate Tutor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge.
My professional leadership included serving as an Executive Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Liaison Psychiatry Faculty and as a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Board of Examiners.
Throughout my career, I have combined specialist clinical practice with academic research. I completed a PhD focused on mood disorders and fatigue in chronic physical illness and end-stage kidney disease, an area in which I have published extensively and presented my research nationally and internationally.
My expertise encompasses the assessment and treatment of a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders (depression, generalised anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar affective disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia), including both functional and organic mental disorders, particularly where complex physical health conditions and multiple comorbidities are present. Special interest and experience in the assessment and management of neurodivergence, including ADHD.
My contribution to clinical practice and the development of liaison psychiatry was recognised through Clinical Excellence Awards in three consecutive years (2018, 2019 and 2020).
My clinical work is complimented by extensive experience in clinical leadership, service development, operational management, care pathways, quality improvement and healthcare service design, including clustering and Care Quality-related processes.
My approach combines evidence-based psychiatry, extensive NHS experience, academic expertise and a holistic understanding of the complex relationship between mental and physical health. I am committed to providing thoughtful, individualised and clinically rigorous psychiatric assessment and treatment, particularly for patients whose mental health needs are complicated by significant physical illness or multiple clinical challenges.
