Dr Chira graduated with honours from University of Birmingham Medical School in 2008. She is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatry and obtained her Certificate of Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2016. She has worked as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the NHS since August 2016.
She worked as an inpatient Consultant in a regional CAMHS Tier 4 service for 6 years. She has experience working with children and young people presenting with a range of complex mental and behavioural disorders, including mood/emotional disorders and self-harming behaviours, psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, feeding and eating disorders including ARFID.
Currently she works in a Community Neurodevelopmental Disorders Service, focused on the assessment, diagnosis, and management of ADHD, ASD and other neurodevelopmental conditions including tics & Tourette’s syndrome.
She is passionate about working collaboratively with children or young people, ensuring that parents, school, and relevant agencies are fully involved in the assessment, formulation, diagnosis, and treatment process. She believes in a holistic approach to treatment and recognises the role of psychological (talking therapies) and social interventions in treatment, in addition to medication.
