Dr Saadiya Khan is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 19 years of clinical experience in mental health services and a specialist interest in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She currently works full-time within neurodevelopmental services, undertaking ADHD and Autism assessments, diagnostic reviews and treatment planning for adults and young people.

Dr Khan has extensive experience across both General Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), giving her a valuable understanding of how neurodevelopmental conditions present across the lifespan. She has also worked within Learning Disability Psychiatry and specialist Adult Autism Services, enabling her to assess a wide range of presentations, including those where neurodevelopmental conditions may be complex or have been previously overlooked.

Her approach is collaborative, supportive and person-centred. She understands that seeking an ADHD or Autism assessment can feel daunting and that many people have spent years trying to understand their experiences. Dr Khan aims to create a calm and respectful environment where patients feel listened to and understood. She believes that an assessment should provide not only diagnostic clarity but also a better understanding of an individual’s strengths, challenges and support needs.

Dr Khan provides comprehensive ADHD and Autism assessments, diagnostic formulation, treatment recommendations and medication reviews where appropriate. She takes a holistic approach, considering developmental history, current difficulties, strengths, mental health, physical health and the impact of symptoms on everyday life.

She can help individuals experiencing difficulties relating to ADHD, Autism, attention and concentration, executive functioning, emotional regulation, sensory sensitivities, social communication differences, anxiety, low mood and associated mental health concerns. Her broader psychiatric experience includes Early Intervention in Psychosis, Eating Disorders, Perinatal Psychiatry, Liaison Psychiatry, Crisis Services and Community Mental Health Teams.

Dr Khan completed her MBBS in 2000, obtained a Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from Cardiff University in 2011, became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2017 and achieved her CCT in General Adult Psychiatry in 2020. She is listed on the GMC Specialist Register.

She has a longstanding interest in neurodevelopmental disorders and previously worked within the specialist Adult Autism Service at Manygates Clinic, Wakefield. She completed ADI-R training in 2014 and has undertaken ADI-R assessments both clinically and within autism research. During higher training she was involved in a research project exploring autism assessment in deaf children, helping to improve assessment pathways for this population.

Dr Khan is fluent in English, Urdu, Pushto and Punjabi and has extensive experience working with individuals and families from a wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Outside work, she enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and continuing her professional development within neurodevelopmental psychiatry.
