There are several stages involved in receiving an ADHD or ASD diagnosis with Psychiatry UK. On this page you’ll find an overview of what the process looks like, average time frames between each stage, and an idea of the communications you can expect to receive from us.

Referral

We receive your referral request from your GP.

Our clinical team reviews your case and makes a decision about whether we are best suited to provide your care.

The referral process can take up to 3 months.

📧 During this process, we’ll get in touch with you, via email or SMS to set up your MedQare account.

If you have not heard from us within 3 months, please ask your GP surgery for the date that they sent your referral, and whether it has been returned to them.

Waitlist

You join the waitlist from the date of your initial referral.

This means, if we received your referral on January 1st and respond to it 6 weeks later on February 12th, you’ll be on our waitlist from January 1st.

You can check the estimated wait times for ADHD and ASD referrals here.

📧 We send you a form every two months to monitor your wellbeing. Please keep an eye on your MedQare portal and email inbox.

Please complete these forms as soon as possible.

📧 While you’re on the waitlist, you’ll also need to complete a ‘welcome checklist’). This includes some ore-assessment forms, providing proof of ID, proof of address and profile information on your portal. This must be completed before an appointment can be booked.

You must complete this checklist within 3 months of receiving this initial email.

Assessment

📧 We’ll get in touch via email and on your MedQare portal to let you know when you’ve reached the top of our waitlist.

📧 You’ll be invited to book an appointment through a unique link.

You must book within 21 days. Appointment slots are shown for dates and times up to 3-6 months into the future.

Your appointment will take place online. You will need to have your ID with you and sit in a quiet, private area.

Post-Assessment

After your assessment, a clinic letter will be added to your portal.

📧 We will also send your clinic letter to your GP.

Titration

If you require medication, you will be referred to our Titration Service and added to our titration waitlist. You join the waitlist from the date your consultant refers you, not from when you first hear from our titration team.

You can check the estimated wait times for titration here.

📧 While on the titration waitlist, we will continue to send you a wellbeing form every 2 months.

It is important that you complete these forms as soon as possible.

📧 Once you reach the top of the waitlist, you will be allocated to a prescriber who will send you a welcome letter through the portal and issue the prescription.

Please respond to your titration welcome letter within 14 days.

📧 We will send you a monitoring form every week to judge the success of the prescription.

You must complete these forms as soon as possible. They expire after one week.

Usually, the titration process takes 12 weeks; however, this can change depending on each individual’s circumstances and reactions to medications.

Once you have finished titration, you will have an end of titration review.

At this point, we will ask your GP to enter into a shared care agreement. This means that your GP will take over issuing your prescriptions and overseeing your care. You can read more about Shared Care Agreements here.
