Getting an Autism Diagnosis
A formal autism diagnosis can be life‑changing, bringing understanding, acceptance, and actionable ways to support yourself. It can help you:
- Understand and accept yourself better
- Build self‑esteem and form more meaningful connections
- Access tailored support in the workplace or education
- Secure legal protections and adjustments
A Deeper Look at Your Journey
Our service is designed for quick and easy access.
- We send you a registration form to help your consultant build a detailed picture of your medical history.
- Once registered, we email you with a link to set up your portal account and verify your identity. You’ll need to upload photo ID and proof of your home address.
- Next we’ll send the three pre-assessment forms that you need to complete before you meet with your consultant.
- When you have completed the steps above, we send you a link to book your appointment.
From setup to report, you’re never alone.
You’ll have a clear view of what’s next via our secure portal – MedQare – and can reach out directly to your Medical Secretary at any time. Need help with forms? Just click “Request Support” and our Patient Support Team will assist you one‑on‑one.
Stage 1: Pre-Assessment – Completion of three pre-assessment questionnaires:
- Self-Report ASD Questionnaire (2 parts)
- AQ10 Autism Spectrum Quotient
- Informant Report Questionnaire
Stage 2: Online consultation with a Specialist Consultant Psychiatrist (1 hour):
At the end of your appointment, your consultant will:
- Discuss their findings and share their diagnosis
- Create your personalised treatment plan and make recommendations for onward support
- Send a detailed clinical assessment report within 7 working days
As soon as your pre-assessment checklist has been completed, we’ll send you a link to find a convenient appointment slot and book with the consultant of your choice. We’ll aim to offer you an appointment within two weeks of completing your checklist, subject to availability.
Our flexible appointment schedule offers slots 7 days a week, between the hours of 6am and 11pm.
Payment is requested at the time of booking your appointment, so please have your payment card with you.
All consultants within this service are GMC-registered and specialise in the diagnosis of autism. They’re supported by a multi-disciplinary team of psychologists, nurses and occupational therapists who are also neurodevelopmental specialists.
Our diagnostic process is detailed and clinically rigorous, using criteria listed in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition) to match your ‘core’ symptoms.
What to Expect
You’ll meet with your consultant online, using the Microsoft Teams platform, so there’s no need to travel or navigate unfamiliar environments. You’ll just need a tablet, laptop or desktop computer and good-quality access to the internet.
Simply find a place that’s quiet and secure, where you feel comfortable to speak freely. You’re welcome to have a family member or friend attend with you.
During your assessment, your consultant will explore and discuss the information provided in your pre-assessment forms to assess whether the experiences and challenges described meet the criteria for a positive autism diagnosis.
Our fee is £1,950. There are no hidden costs. You’ll pay securely when booking your appointment, and your invoice will be available in your portal for download.
