Dr Watkin qualified as a doctor in London from University College London in 1998, and has an additional degree in Tumour Biology. She completed her post graduate psychiatric training in London, becoming Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2006.
A Psychiatric Consultant since 2010 she is registered with the General Medical Council for both working age and older adults. She has a genuine interest in all aspects of the adult life span, and is skilled in the treatment and management of complex brain disorders.
She has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in University College London Hospital, community teams and in-patient psychiatric wards. She is adept at identifying and prioritising the role of physical illness in relation to mental health, and understands its complex interplay. Her experience includes being an independent Section 12 approved doctor completing independent Mental Health Act assessments in London, and seeing clients as a trained assessor for DOLS (deprivation of liberty) standards.
Dr Watkin’s psychiatric practice is based on the following three principles.
- Thorough assessments with attention to detail, analysing all the evidence, reaching a conclusion and giving clear advice.
- Bespoke tailored treatment. For some people pharmacology is key, but for others it’s making life changes, starting talking treatment, acceptance, or a combination of these.
- That people benefit from having a narrative for understanding themselves, as when people make sense of themselves, they can bring about personal effective change.
