I am a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist with thirty-one years of experience in the field of psychiatry. I qualified as MD at “La Sapienza University” in Rome (Italy) in 1987.
I started training in the field of psychiatry and completed my specialist training in 1991 in Italy. I moved to the UK to work as an International Fellow in 2005 and joined the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the same year.
As Consultant Psychiatrist, I have led several types of multidisciplinary teams and held responsibility of patients in different clinical settings: PICU, open acute and rehab wards, Acquired Brain Injury – Forensic, Crisis Team, Liaison, primary care, early intervention in psychosis and Community teams such as Assessment, Assertive Outreach and Rehabilitation.
I am also Approved Clinician under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act as having special expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.
I have researched, taught, and published studies on topics such as burnout syndrome, combat stress – PTSD and trauma, human performance in extreme and polar environments, epidemiology of suicide, impact of childhood adverse events as precursor of psychiatric illness and psychotherapy.
I provide specialist consultation, treatment, and advice to adults with ADHD, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, mood disorders (including depression and bipolar affective disorder), and psychotic disorders including schizophrenia.
My practice is evidence-based, and I am a great believer in self-education and learning from others’ lives and personal experience. I am flexible, curious, and passionate about my work and I take satisfaction and pride from helping and supporting people with complex mental health problems.
