She studied medicine at Birmingham University, where she graduated as a medical doctor in 2001. She started to specialise in Psychiatry in 2003. Her specialised training was completed in both South London and Maudsley Trust and South West London and St Georges NHS Trust. She gained her Certificate of Completion (CTT) in 2010 and has since been a Consultant Psychiatrist at South West London and St Georges and Sussex Partnership NHS Trust. She has had 20 years experience in Psychiatry and been a Consultant Psychiatrist for over 10 years. She is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatry and is on the Specialist Register. She is Section 12(2) approved under the Mental Health Act.
As a Consultant she has worked in the Community, Perinatal and Inpatient settings. She has specialised experience in treating those with neuro developmental disorders including ADHD and Autism. She is experience in treating those with Personality Disorders, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Affective Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
She won Supervisor of the Year award in 2022. As well as being a Consultant she is also the Acute Clinical Lead Psychiatrist and Clinical lead for patient flow.
Dr Spavin has extensive experience of working using the Bio Psycho Social model. She strongly believes in a collaborative approach, working closely with the patient to formulate a clear diagnosis and treatment plan, using an evidence based approach to ensure the best chance of recovery and help people overcome their difficulties.
