David trained in Cardiff in medicine and psychiatry with an intercalated BSc in physiology in the 1990s. He holds an MSc and MRCPsych in Psychiatry. Psychiatric experience included Learning Disability, an addiction endorsement and a CCT in general adult psychiatry. David has been continually employed within the NHS from 1993 to date and has been particularly inspired by consultants in learning disability, liaison psychiatry and addiction. He has collaborated in research throughout his career from his MSc on potassium channels to the SUDEP checklist for epilepsy safety.

David’s professional fulfilment comes from the opportunities to help restore health and dignity to fellow human beings suffering mental health problems. Whether individually or as part of an MDT he believes this is best achieved through careful listening and analysis of symptoms followed by individually planned and evidence-based treatments. David has many years’ experience of acute adult psychiatry (>25 years) including a decade of working with people with alcohol and drug problems, and more than 10 years of consultant work with people with epilepsy, autism and learning disability. David is excited to be able to reach a wider NHS group of people through Psych-UK and to reduce the anxiety of waiting for treatment.
