I am a consultant psychiatrist. I have experience of helping people from all walks of life overcome their difficulties and achieve their goals through the accurate diagnosis and optimal treatment of ADHD.

It is not unusual for people to experience mixed feelings and strong emotions when being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. I believe that the assessment process should always aim to be therapeutic in its own right and I maintain a thoughtful and unhurried approach.

An assessment also presents a valuable opportunity to deepen your understanding of how ADHD might be impacting on your day-to-day life and how it can be better managed. I always aim to incorporate psychoeducation into the assessment, guided by your priorities and concerns.

My outlook on mental health in general is informed by my familiarity with a range of psychotherapy modalities including CBT, psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive analytic therapy (CAT), and mentalisation-based treatment (MBT). I have also worked in a day service for people diagnosed with personality disorders, which was based on a Therapeutic Community model.

I continue to work in the NHS for 3 days a week, where I assess and manage a wide range of mental health conditions (including psychosis, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders and PTSD) in a community mental health team in southwest London. As part of my NHS role I also provide clinical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team, and clinical and educational supervision to resident doctors in training.

Further to the above I am active in medical education and professional standard setting:

  • As ‘College Tutor’ at my Trust I arrange and chair a weekly academic programme for medical colleagues.
  • I am an annual appraiser for consultant colleagues at my Trust,
  • I am a CASC Examiner (and interviewer for applications to higher training in psychiatry) for the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • I co-lead the student selected modules ‘Philosophy of Medicine’ and ‘History of Psychiatry’ at City St George’s Medical School.
