Dr. Alan Cross is a highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with over 20 years of expertise in Adult Mental Health, Adult ADHD, and Addiction Psychiatry.
He began his medical career in 1999 and further demonstrated his commitment to the field by becoming a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2006.
Dr. Cross holds a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry with an endorsement in Addiction Psychiatry.
He is recognized as an Approved Clinician and is Section 12(2) approved under the Mental Health Act.
In 2013, Dr. Cross established an ADHD Clinic in Newham, addressing a significant service gap for adults with ADHD—a condition that was neglected at the time. His pioneering efforts in this area have provided crucial support to numerous individuals who were previously undiagnosed and untreated. Notably, his work in ADHD is deeply personal, as he himself was diagnosed with the condition later in life.
Dr. Cross has an interest in the intersection of ADHD and addiction, understanding that many individuals with ADHD also have a history of substance use. His experience includes working with the CNWL Club Drug Clinic, where he has addressed the challenges posed by substances such as cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, and GBL/GHB, and within the context of chemsex in the LGBTQ+ community.
Beyond his specialized work in ADHD and addiction, Dr. Cross has made substantial contributions to general adult psychiatry. He has held substantive roles in both inpatient and community settings, delivering comprehensive care for a wide range of mental health conditions, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, self-harm, and drug-induced psychosis.
His commitment to early intervention is evident through his work in Early Intervention Services, where he has provided specialized care for young adults experiencing their first episode of psychosis. Additionally, his involvement in community Drug & Alcohol services highlights his dedication to addressing dependency on substances such as heroin, alcohol, prescription medications, and cannabis.
Dr. Cross’s passion for knowledge extends beyond clinical practice. He holds an Honorary Research Fellowship with Imperial College London and the CIPPRES Clinic, and is involved in a study assessing gambling disorder. As the Managing Director of Neurohaven Ltd., Dr. Cross is leading the development of an innovative community service that integrates art, music, mental health, and emerging technologies to better serve individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders and the wider community.
