I qualified in 1987 from Leeds University Medical School. I have full registration with the GMC and have my Certificate of Completion of Specialty Training in General and Substance Misuse Psychiatry.
I have been a Consultant Psychiatrist since 1998, working for NHS Ayrshire and Arran until 2017 and then in independent practice. I have worked in Community Mental Health Teams, Community Addiction Teams, Inpatient Psychiatric Units, Inpatient Addiction Rehabilitation Facilities and have experience in liaison psychiatry.
I have prepared many psychiatric medico-legal reports since 2018. I was Medical Director for Addictions Services during my work in the NHS. I am also a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Independent Doctors Federation.
I am very experienced in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of general psychiatric conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and psychosis. I have a particular interest and experience in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder and Addictions.
I am an approved EMDR practitioner with the EMDR UK Association and have extensively used EMDR in my practice since 2003. I am also trained and use Brainspotting and Sensory Motor Psychotherapy in my clinical practice. I strongly believe in the use of psychological therapy as an alternative or adjunct to drug treatments in many psychiatric conditions. I am entirely comfortable with integrating medication and psychological therapies in my clinical practice.
