Dr Nisha Shah is a Consultant Psychiatrist, trained in Adult General and Community Psychiatry, with additional Liaison Endorsement.
Following qualification from Cambridge University she worked in general medicine and attained MRCP. Her enjoyment of Liaison Psychiatry ultimately led to a career as a Perinatal Psychiatrist at consultant level. As a result she has a particular interest in women struggling with their mental health in the perinatal period, as well as maternal mental illness in general. She has a Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy which, in addition to a Family Therapy Advanced Diploma, underpins an expertise in the mental health care of women and their families.
She has recently worked with men impacted by trauma in a Veterans Mental Health Service. The breadth of her work includes, but is not limited to, a very wide range of diagnostic categories from Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder through to Anxiety and Depression. She has assessed and managed conditions including Schizophrenia, OCD, Eating Disorders and Complex PTSD.
An intercalated philosophy degree has resulted in a particular facility for psychodynamic thinking. Dr Shah also has experience of working with the mental health tribunal and has always enjoyed the challenges of complexity, diversity and a very mixed psychiatric practice.
