Kathy qualified in Medicine and completed her higher specialty training in Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She has been a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for 30 years.

Kathy has extensive experience assessing and working with children and young people in a variety of clinical settings both in the UK and Canada. She has developed and worked with multi disciplinary teams working with young people in crisis, with depression, self harm, anxiety, OCD and early psychosis in community and inpatient settings. For 5 years, Kathy worked as the Consultant in the Paediatric Liaison Team at the Royal London Hospital helping young people with medical illness coexisting with mental health problems, unexplained medical symptoms, acquired brain injuries and chronic pain. She has provided psychiatric consultation to specialist programs caring for Looked After Children in specialised foster care and residential care.

Kathy has worked with teams both in CAMHS and child development clinics that provide specialist assessments for Neurodevelopmental disorders including ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. She has training in the 3DI and ADI.

In the past Kathy has done private court assessments for families, the Children’s Guardian and Local Authorities.

Along with having extensive experience in the use of medication for young people with mental illness, Kathy has had training in various psychological therapies including CBT and IPT ( interpersonal therapy) and systemic therapy.

In all the work that she has done, Kathy works to understand the child in the context of their whole life including their family, school and social life. To do this she considers the Importance of hearing the voice of child as well as the family so as to provide thorough assessments and develop helpful treatment/care plans.
