I am a general adult psychiatrist with over twenty years of experience. I trained as a doctor and psychiatrist at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
Later I completed a Masters in Psychiatric Research at the University of Edinburgh and a PhD back in South Africa. I have conducted research in the fields of psychosis, epidemiology and global mental health and collaborate with researchers in the UK, South Africa, Nigeria, India and the Caribbean.
I have published over a hundred academic articles, books and book chapters and currently hold an Honorary Professorship in Psychiatry at the University of Exeter.
I work in the NHS as a consultant psychiatrist within community mental health services and am involved in the teaching and training of doctors, nurses and psychiatrists in the UK and abroad.
I have extensive experience and ongoing clinical involvement with the assessment and treatment of adult patients with a wide range of mental health problems, including depression and anxiety, trauma, OCD, ADHD and autistic spectrum conditions, bipolar disorder, drug and alcohol use and psychotic disorders including schizophrenia.
