GMC Number: 6115377

I trained at Aberdeen University and graduated in 2005. I did my core training in psychiatry at South London and Maudsley Foundation Trust and then my higher training at North Central London. I have practiced as a general adult consultant psychiatrist since 2014 and enjoy working on an acute ward in the NHS and the challenges and rewards it brings. Iam actively involved in medical leadership and medical education and obtained a post graduate certificate in medical education. I am also an Approved Clinician and approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act and have written psychiatric reports for the courts.

I have an interest in Open Dialogue practice, having completed a residential course in 2018 and have completed EMDR training which has been excellent in assisting with treating and understanding trauma. I also have an interest in the history of psychiatry and psychoanalysis having completed a foundation course in group psychotherapy at the Institute for Group Analysis.

I thrive on spending time with my clients to get a good outcome for them and am keen to understand the nature of one’s life experiences and the narrative of a person’s background in order to best understand what is right for them going forwards.  I have expertise in psychopharmacology and have a patient attitude to find the right outcome for my clients.

I have expertise in treating depression and anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. I have experience working in clinics assessing, diagnosing and treating adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

I welcome the views of family members and appreciate the value of multiple perspectives in my approach. I am open minded and can work alongside a variety of approaches from other professionals together with a traditional biological approach. I believe it is important for you not to feel rushed, but to feel valued and respected as a client. I offer a service which is client centred, giving you time regarding your choice of treatment and ensuring that you have all the materials and professional advice to hand enabling you to make informed choices about your care.

I believe in offering a holistic and supportive approach to helping people manage and understand their mental health needs. I believe that symptoms arising from mental health crises are often expressions of valuable information that can be listened to and understood. In this sense I see our work together as very much a partnership and look forward to working with you.
