Dr Madeleine Kerr is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Approved Clinician currently working in the NHS in Sussex after 25 years training and practising in London. She is approved under s12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 as having special experience in the diagnosis or treatment of mental disorders. She qualified from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine & Dentistry in 2001 and holds a BSc in Psychology from UCL and a Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Law from Northumbria University. She has been a psychiatrist since 2003, obtaining MRCPsych and specialising in Early Intervention in Psychosis in the East End of London before continuing her higher training at South London and the Maudsley. She has worked as a consultant since 2013 both in crisis, inpatient, community and forensic settings and has particular experience and expertise in managing the psychoses (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, BPAD with and without psychosis, psychotic depression), Adult ADHD, depression, anxiety spectrum disorders and personality disorders. 

Dr Kerr has a keen interest developing the next generation of doctors to promote awareness of mental health challenges across all medical specialities. She coordinated the local teaching and clinical placements for Kings in Lewisham from 2015 and acted as a Firm Head, Reflective Practitioner and Educational Supervisor within the old and new curriculum framework at Kings until 2019. She now works within a busy working age adult service for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
