Dr Rehana Shakir is a Consultant Psychiatrist who leads the Autism and ADHD  pathway for children and adolescents with special needs in a East London NHS trust. As the lead Psychiatrist, she takes responsibility for diagnosis, management and treatment of neurodevelopmental conditions with severe challenging behaviours and mental health disorders. She is the safeguarding lead for children in Enfield.

Dr. Shakir has a wide range of experience, first graduating from Tver State medical Institute in Russia, working in Sri Lanka, then followed by over 20 years of experience in psychiatry in the NHS. She did her postgraduate training in the Oxford deanery, specialising in the psychiatry of intellectual disabilities. Later developing a special interest in neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and Autism across all ages, with further postgraduate qualifications in Autism Spectrum Disorders. She is trained in Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), Autistic diagnostic interview-Reviewed (ADI-R) and PEERS® social skills training for autistic children. 

As a consultant, she has experience in a variety of settings, from managing a complex and challenging inpatient unit in Oxford, to currently being the lead psychiatrist for an outpatient services for neurodevelopmental disorders. With years of exposure to working successfully with schools, families, social services and other multidisciplinary team members.

With her expertise, Dr. Shakir was involved in postgraduate teaching in the Oxford Deanery, lecturing on intellectual disabilities. Currently, she is a clinical trainer for junior doctors and is actively involved in medical student teaching at UCL.

Dr. Shakir is a highly caring and empathetic practitioner of medicine who strongly believes in putting the patient at the centre of her care.
