Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist Dr Venter has been based in Cambridge, England, since 2005. He completed his specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Cambridge. Dr Venter offers private consultations as well as Child and Adolescent consultant services to the NHS. Dr Venter is co-director for an organisation that offers international pro bono service development and outreach work.

Dr Venter has in excess of 20 years experience of working in the UK and in the NHS in secure inpatient, general inpatient, hospital, emergency, intensive support, community and outreach settings. Dr Venter has extensive experience in the full range of disciplines within child and adolescent mental health, including assessment and treatment of complex mental health and neurodevelopmental difficulties, such as ADHD and ASD, in children and young people.

As part of a comprehensive treatment plan, Dr Venter offers psychotherapeutic approaches including behavioural therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy and systemic family therapy. This combination of therapeutic skills facilitates a systemic, bio-psycho-social approach to assessment and treatment. Dr Venter has extensive experience in psychopharmacological prescribing, including in complex cases.

Dr Venter regularly engages in teaching and training of doctors, medical staff and paramedical staff in various medical and non-medical settings, and previously taught medical students at the University of Cambridge and doctors specialising in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry preparing for the MRCPsych exams.
