NB At the present time, Dr Yates is unfortunately not able to offer assessments accessed via NHS contract or ‘Right-to-Choose’ (RTC) referral routes.

I am an experienced Psychiatrist and have been working in the field of mental health since 2010, providing specialist input for mental health difficulties of all kinds related to the whole spread of human experience. I am dual accredited by the General Medical Council as a Consultant in both General Adult and Older Adult Psychiatry, in addition to which I have several years of experience working with children and young people. In recent years, I have developed a particular interest in neurodiversity and, having undertaken additional specialist training, have shifted my clinical emphasis onto the assessment of neurodevelopmental / neurodivergent conditions such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

My fundamental aim in my clinical practice is to provide thorough, holistic and compassionate care tailored to your specific needs and wishes. In addition to my diagnostic and pharmacological expertise, I have undertaken post-graduate training in various modalities of psychotherapy, further cultivating skills developed during my first degree in Psychology and Philosophy at Cambridge. I am known for my comprehensive approach, my attentive communication skills, and for treating people with respect, sensitivity and openness. My clinical expertise has been affirmed, first by my medical school (St George’s, University of London), from which I graduated with a distinction, and later by the Royal College of Psychiatrists which, on admitting me as a specialist member, awarded me the Laughlin Prize in Psychiatry.

In tandem with my patient-facing work, I have keen interests in medical education, medical ethics, and the communicative aspects of clinical practice. I greatly enjoy travel, and am fascinated by language, culture, politics and anthropology.

I very much hope that my experience, skills and professional values can be of assistance to you.

I currently offer assessment and diagnosis in the following areas, with a particular emphasis on undertaking assessments which are thorough (aimed at doing justice to the importance and complexity of these diagnostic questions) and patient-centred (with a view to making the experience as comfortable as it possibly can be for you). This unfortunately means that I am not currently able to offer assessments accessed via NHS contract or ‘Right-to-Choose’ (RTC) referral routes as these do not offer provision for the more extended assessment process I am committed to providing.
